About us
Forwhen you need to do anything else.
You love spending time with your kids, but life still gets in the way. There’s always a work emergency, a nanny calling out sick, or just the desire to take a breather and have a much-needed catch-up with friends. Finding someone trusted to take care of your little one when anything else comes up shouldn’t add more stress to your plate.
Currently, looking for a babysitter looks like scrolling through endless posts on community groups or dealing with faceless platforms with hidden fees and rigid policies. No thanks. You deserve a better, more human way to meet your next sitter.
Meet Forwhen—your neighborhood’s best kept secret for curated, on-demand childcare. We’re building a platform where finding a sitter is as easy as sending a text.
FAQs
-
We do the legwork of vetting recommendations, initial interviews, and keeping track of sitters’ availability so that it’s as easy as sending a text when you need care. We’ll share all the information we have about the sitter ahead of time so that you can ensure they’re a match.
All of our sitters follow our code of conduct so that families receive consistent care, even when working with a sitter for the first time. We believe in engaging and age-appropriate play, staying away from screens, cleaning up after ourselves and the kids, and respecting your house rules. We chat with all sitters via video call before they join the platform to learn about their experience and run background checks. Our goal is to do more up-front work to learn about sitters so that we can be a lot quicker to match when there’s a need. Ultimately, it’s up to each family and sitter to decide to work together—we do not employ any sitters directly and families are responsible for determining whether a sitter fits their needs.
-
Most sitter sites charge a membership fee both to the parents and the babysitters, and then take a cut of the sitter’s hourly pay on top of that. Here, we charge a small per-booking fee so that families only pay when they need us and sitters take home their full earnings.
Sitters set their own hourly rates, normally ranging between $25-$35/hour. The booking fee is $10 for your first sit and $5 for subsequent sits.
-
We specialize in date night, one-off, or last minute care. But we always know people looking for recurring or full-time sitting gigs, so reach out with any requests and we’ll see what we can do!
-
You can fill out the form on the homepage to get started—for parents, we ask that you share your LinkedIn or other social media profile to verify your identity. Once confirmed, you can text to find a sitter!
-
Forwhen was founded with flexibility in mind—flexibility for families to find care when they need it and for sitters to book jobs on their schedule. This means that we can’t guarantee the same sitter will be available every time you’re looking for care, as their schedules may shift from week to week. You can request the same sitter and we’ll always try to accommodate. All of our sitters follow our code of conduct so that families receive consistent care, even when working with someone new. We also ask that you fill out a quick prep guide before the sit with some info about your family, so we can share this with whichever sitter you’re booked with.
-
We used a third-party service called Checkr to do a background check for every sitter on our platform. The check includes a global watchlist search, national criminal search, sex offender search and SSN trace.
-
We recommend a three hour booking at minimum, but if you have a request that’s shorter, feel free to reach out and we’ll see what we can work out.
Meet the founder
Ellie Benner is a veteran of consumer startups like Away and Paperless Post, where she developed a passion for creating exceptional customer experiences. During a career break, she started babysitting and quickly noticed the many gaps in the industry. Driven by her own frustrations and curiosity, Ellie surveyed other sitters and families to understand what was missing and set out to create a better experience for everyone. As a new mom, she is committed to making life easier for parents—one babysitter at a time.
