Sitters

How does it work?

To be a part of our network, all sitters fill out an intake form to share their childcare experience and any special skills. You’ll have a 15-minute call where we learn more about your background, and have you complete a background check. Once you’re good to go, you’ll be matched with amazing families. The cost for the background check ($30) will be taken from your first booking. All payment is made through us via Venmo, however no fees will be taken from your hourly rate.

What’s the difference between using you and using another babysitting agency or booking site?

We learn about you, your preferences, and your schedule ahead of time so we can match you with great families. No ghosting or a ton of intro calls before a job is even booked.

We also believe in a high standard of care for the kids we sit, and want you to as well. We ask that you follow these guidelines when working with us:

  • Default to IRL play: We are only with our kids for a few hours at a time, so we prioritize interactive play without screens. Ask the family their rules for screen time and stick with them.

  • Clean up your messes: We do their best to clean up any spills that happened during the sit. We aren’t housekeepers, but we’ll try to keep things tidy. If it’s a short sit or a true masterpiece of a pillow fort that’s being built, we may not always get to everything.

  • Be proactive: Parents will give you the rundown of what they expect your sit to be like, but they won’t always think of everything. Think outside the box if there’s a super fussy kid or other snag—you can always text and confirm, but use your best judgment.

Do I need to have childcare experience to work with you?

No, all backgrounds are welcome! We started after our founder, Ellie, began babysitting her friends’ kids and realized how much fun childcare was but how difficult it was to be matched with great families. Whether you’re new to childcare but love kids, you’ve earned your place as your niece’s favorite aunt, or you’re a childcare professional, we’d love to have you. All sitters must be 18+.

How much do you charge?

Rates for sitters are dependent on years of experience and number of kids.

This sounds great, how soon can we start?

We’re currently onboarding sitters and families and hope to launch in summer 2024, starting in Brooklyn. If you want to learn more or share feedback about where we should head next, get in touch at hibrooklynbabysitters@gmail.com.

How does it work?

All families must fill out an intake form to learn about their little ones and what they’re looking for in a sitter. Then, we’ll get on a 15-minute call to learn more and ensure we have all the information to match you with a perfect sitter. You’ll be matched with amazing sitters who fit your needs.

What’s the difference between using you and using another babysitting agency or booking site?

We do the legwork of vetting recommendations, personal information, completing a background check, initial interviews, and keeping track of sitters’ availabilities so that all you need to do is text us when you need a sitter, and we’ll send one you can trust your way. We’ll share all the information we have about your sitter ahead of time so that you can ensure they are a match for your family and if there’s any issue, just let us know and we’ll find someone else that fits your needs. And if anything falls through, we’ll do our best to find another sitter.

We know that when you find a new sitter, it can be hard to get on the same page about your expectations. We believe in a high standard of care for your family, so all of our sitters follow these guidelines when working with us:

  • Default to IRL play: We are only with our kids for a few hours at a time, so we prioritize interactive play without screens. Ask the family their rules for screen time and stick with them.

  • Clean up your messes: We do their best to clean up any spills that happened during the sit. We aren’t housekeepers, but we’ll try to keep things tidy. If it’s a short sit or a true masterpiece of a pillow fort that’s being built, we may not always get to everything.
